The Color Orange (2026)

$15.00

The Color Orange is a fanfare for trombone quartet inspired by my orange cat, Tom-tom. The work's central two-note motif is a transcription of his name, reflecting the inflection my family and I use to call to him. Beyond this gesture, the piece is less a portrait of a cat and more of a celebration of resilience, adaptability, and the familiarity we find amid change.

Together, Tom-tom and I have moved from Syracuse (Go Orange!) to Delaware, living in five different homes along the way. Through each transition, I've been struck by his remarkable ability to adapt, establish new routines, and find comfort in unfamiliar surroundings. It's a quality I admire in animals and one I continually strive to emulate in my own life.

At its heart, The Color Orange celebrates the capacity to embrace change without losing stability, finding joy even as the world around us evolves.
